PROJECT STORY
kew college pre-prep playground

april 2023

Kew College Pre-prep school in West London is a collection of old and new buildings, resulting in some interesting spaces outside. One such space comes off one of the classrooms and is used as a playground area for some of the youngest pupils. The area is a combination of different brick and stone surfaces and doesn’t get much sunlight due to it’s orientation and overhanging trees, so it felt dark and very uninspiring.

The head asked me to come up with a design that would be bright, colourful and appeal to the young children. The staff decided on a jungle theme and that was all the guidance I needed. I decided to do something a little different and we made it more of a Chinese jungle with tiger, panda and monkeys. paint it in a illustrative flat colour style and take it along two walls.

THE OUTCOME

The space was very busy, and so required a lot of work. “We felt we needed a professional designer for our project who was experienced with ideas.” said Head Jane Bond.”

“The design and finish met expectations. Sarah was very easy to work with, listened carefully to our brief and understood what we wanted to achieve. We are happy with the finished design and proud to share it our school community.”

This was quite the transformation, turning this area from boring to beautiful in just 4 days.
