MURAL RESTORATION
Mural restoration is a meticulous and highly specialised process dedicated to preserving the integrity and beauty of wall paintings for future generations. These works of art, often integral to the cultural and historical fabric of their surroundings, face various threats over time, including damage due to refurbishments, floods or damp, vandalism, and natural deterioration. Restoration employs a combination of art history knowledge and fine craftsmanship to carefully clean, repair, and protect these masterpieces.
Each project begins with a thorough assessment of the mural’s condition, followed by the development of a tailored restoration plan. This plan often includes the removal of surface dirt, reitegration of lost pigments, repainting and updating, depending on the level of deterioration and the application of protective coatings. We carry out work for insurers, companies and private individuals.
We are often asked to update murals, adding to their history to keep the story telling going. This is done with respect to the original piece and it’s purpose. We like to think that if the original artist saw our restored murals, they would not even realise that anything had been added.
The goal of mural restoration is not just to refresh and repair the artwork’s appearance, but to revive its original essence, whilst respecting it’s historical context. Through careful research and attention to detail, we can breathe new life into these cherished artworks, restoring lost detail and colour, ensuring their stories endure for years to come.
