Myton Hospices provide end of life care across two specialist facilities in Warwickshire. When the charity received a generous gift to improve the environment for patients, they chose to create relaxing coastal-themed murals in three bathrooms, with two British seascapes and one tropical scene.
Covering an entire wall wasn’t practical, so I painted faux windows looking out to sea. The idea worked especially well in one bathroom, which had no real window at all. These trompe l’oeil designs are finished with plants and accessories on the window sills, such as the straw hat and orchid in this tropical view. These details add realism and depth, and bring a few more natural elements into the room.
The aim was simple: to give patients a moment of calm, and a view to enjoy, during what can be a difficult time.

Charlotte Designs were chosen as a result of previous similar work. "The quiality of the paintings is excellent." said Marco Bandeira, Facilities Manager, "We hope to have more in our Warwick site. "They have gone down so well. Everyone (staff included) are blown away by them, and they have make having a bath and (so I’m told) going to the loo a much more relaxing experience. I showed them to the commissioner that was here yesterday too, and he was extremely impressed!" added Ward Manager Sue.
