This project was created for a retired couple who wanted to bring their love of the outdoors into their beautifully appointed garden summer house, with a sweeping sunrise view over the ocean.

The summer house’s wood panelled walls presented a challenging surface to work with, breaking the wall up into a series of vertical panels and joins rather than one smooth canvas. The design needed to work with that structure rather than fight it, using the natural lines of the panelling to help draw the eye out and beyond, as though the back wall had opened up onto a real coastal view.

The finished mural takes the eye from soft, sandy dunes and swaying grasses in the foreground, out along a path of sand toward a glowing sunrise breaking through layered clouds, with a distant sailboat drifting across calm water. The result gives the whole summer house a sense of space and escape, turning a garden retreat into a room with a view.

This has become an ongoing project for the couple, with further additions painted in July, and more still planned for August, as the mural continues to grow and evolve alongside the space they love spending time in.

“Upon meeting Sarah we knew that she was exactly the right person for the job.” said Carolyn Forster.

“Not only does our mural meet our expectations, it goes above and beyond.  It’s simply stunning.

Sarah is a lovely person, easy to work with and a fabulous artist.  She understood our brief immediately and brought our imaginations to life.  We now spend many happy hours admiring our beach scene as though we are there.”
