PROJECT STORY
WW2 Bunker Courtyard mural

May-July 2024

My clients purchased an unusual converted WW2 bunker home, which came complete with a large, high sided courtyard. The courtyard is viewable bothe from the bedrooms downstairs and the living space and adjoining balcony upstairs. Rather than looking out onto blank concrete, they wanted to create a relaxing and natural view, to enjoy and they wanted it to feel different from the two different levels.

I worked with my clients to come up with a couple of diferent ideas, but as this property is a long way from the coast, which my clients miss, they decided that a typical English seaside view was their preference.

My clients are keen sailors, so we added yachts to the sea view and used the ledge as the horizon. Then further down, we added sand dunes and grasses to make the lower area feel different and added a larger boat as a focal point from the main bedroom.

The transformation is quite astounding, to go from blank concrete walls, which were very claustrophobic, to a feeling of being by the seaside is quite remarkable.

“Thank you for a fantastic mural.” said Lesley, the bunker’s owner, “it’s amazing!”
