The Grainstore Emporium
George Estates provide studios, workshops and offices space across several locations in the South West. Blandford Forum is the location of one of their newest developments, a site with a history in the unique Georian market town of Blandofrd Forum. The site centres around a central courtyard, which is accessed directly from the entrance and is served by the development’s excellent cafe. George Estates wanted to create an eye-catching and memorable entrance, whilst providing a colourful backdrop to the cafe seating area.
My brief was to create a piece that celebrated the local area and this was to be painted on plastic coated metal. After looking at a few different options, we decided to create a scene that incorporated the two bridges that span the Stour in the town, which worked well on the 13m long panel to be painted. Due to the coating, specialist paints had to be used to provide good adhesion and a long lasting finish and we chose Bradite One Coat, which went on like a dream and provided a really beautiful finish.
“The process was made very simple! Some of the other muralists I spoke to, made things quite tricky and unappealing when trying to find out rough costs and expectations of what could be achieved. Sarah was very down to earth, easy to email/talk to and gave me clear expectations and prices from the start, which made it easier for me to piece together if we could make a design work on site and if it was feasible for us as a company.” said executive Blossom Robbins.
During the course of the painting, I took feedback from the tenants into account and added some details that only a local would know. “The result is absolutely stunning, a beautiful piece of art for our site. Many of our Tenants have commented on its beauty. We love it!”
